Getting Started
To get started with crafting there are four NPCs, found in each of the starting areas in the game, who will give out the first crafting quest. The quests from different starting areas may be different but they do the same job: they point out your nearest Master/Mistress of Apprentices, who will get you started on your crafting career.

If you haven't come across the lord of the rings online gold guide yet - you pretty much missed out on some of the best gold-making methods in the game. Time to catch up with this and other LotRO guides. In case you're looking for something more basics, you can check out the Lord of the Rings Online guides for starters and newbies at Lord of the Rings Online.
The Crafting Interface
After choosing a vocation you will be able to open your 'crafting panel', where there are 3 tabs at the top - one for each trade in your vocation -
Clicking on each tab will bring up its trade known recipes. You will start out an apprentice in each of your trades. As you begin to use your crafting you will gain experience which will in time become to the maximum amount of experience then you may have to do a quest to carry on to get to your next crafting tier. After gaining proficiency at a trade you will have the right to become a master at that trade tier, but we will go into that in more detail later on.
When highlighting a recipe, the bottom half of the box will list the materials, tool and required crafting station.
It also tells you the amount of crafting experience that will be gained in one creation of the item. When you have the required materials, a crafting tool equiped in the 'craft tool slot' and are near the required crafting station (if needed). You just select the item you want to create and then press the make button and sit back as the animations pass by.
To get you started:
Tools and Ingredients
Some of the tools and ingredients that are not able to be crafted or gathered from a nodeare bought off the vender from a 'provisioner'. Provisioners are usually near crafting stations and the 'Master/Mistress of Apprentices. Such as the Boiled Light Leather, it is a component crafted by a Forester from two 'light hides', common loot of animals. The chances are, if the provisioner doesn't have the item you need then it is crafted or gathered by another trade.
Crafting Stations
Crafting stations include; Oven(Cook), Forge(Metalsmithing/Prospection), Workbench(Woodsman,Tailor, Forester, Jeweler), Fields(Farmer).
These stations are usually close by provisioners and Master/Mistress of Apprentices. But farms are dotted about some places you can find them are, Staddle (east of Bree-Town) and Delving Fields (South-East of Michael Delving).
Advancing to a 'Master'
After gaining crafting experience from crafting items, by using the required materials, tool and crafting station. When your experience points reach the maxium you have to do a crafting quest to get proficiency (not on gathering trades). After doing that quest you will be iledgible to advance to a Master of that crafting tier in that trade.
After completing that quest, or just getting the maxium experience you will notice that the crafting experience bar has changed somewhat.
As you continue to make new items in this crafting tier your experience will go up the same as before. At the same time, you also get an experience bar for Journeyman proficiency.
When you gain a proficiency you automatically learn the default recipes at the new tier but you can also purchase some new recipes from the vendor for your trade (e.g. Novice Tailorer), or from the auction house.
Shortcuts to all of this are available at Strategy Freaks - they offer a number of Lord of the Rings Online bots that level over night and provide outright Lord of the Rings Online cheats that basically get you ahead in an instant by using exploits.
New 'Mastery' Options
After your mastery experience bar fills up, you will gain a new title: Master Apprentice. But more importantly, after gaining mastery you also gain a new option, at the bottom of the crafting window you will see the "mastery option" you can use this to enhance the chance of making a improved product of what you are making. E.g. a cloth cloak with 10 armor becomes a stout cloth cloak 14armor +2might, or a umber dye becomes 3 umber dyes.
But you can only get this with a chance, the base is 5% after getting master but you can also use mastery items to enhance that chance by up to 44% also stacking that with a ancient steel tool that leads to a total 69% chance!
Theres also another part of crafting i haven't told you about, the incredible: single-use recipes, these require specific ingredients from rare or unique creatures. Each single-use recipe list a unique ingredient with no tips as to where you get it from, and you have to find it to complete the recipe. These type of items are even more rare then the mastery item, because of the difficulty of obtaining them, if you just happen to get hold of one you dont need, be sure to give it to a friend or sell it at the auction house.
Just to help you crafters a list has been produced to help you find the right creature and where to find it.
