Titles for your character can be reached a variety of ways, such as completing in game accomplishments. You can speed things up with these LotRO guides, hacks, walkthroughs and cheats.
What's in a name? In The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, descriptors are often added to the names of people to provide significant information about them: Gandalf the Grey, Eorl the Young, Saruman the Wise, or Théoden son of Thengel. Even weapons, such as Orcrist the Goblin-cleaver, were granted titles based on their history. In The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™, players can choose similar titles of distinction and renown based upon their deeds by using the LOTRO Title System.
Your Title Management panel is accessed by bringing up the Character Journal (by clicking the Journal Panel icon in the lower left or by pressing "c") and choosing the "Titles" tab. By default you have the option of displaying a Heritage Title, which is based upon your character's chosen origin (i.e., Eldhir of Mirkwood, Dhorin of the Iron Hills, etc.).

Characters don't begin with an assigned title, so you must choose the title you'd like to use, and then click the "Make Active" button. Other players will now see your chosen title over your head, along with your name. Selecting your character will allow you to see the overhead view of the title as well.
You'll acquire more options for titles throughout your adventures in Middle-earth. There are titles to reflect your Kinship, your Crafting achievements, and many other Questing and Accomplishment achievements. You may even be granted an entirely unique title during one of our Admin-run live events! You can change to a new title at any time simply by clicking the "Clear Active" button in the Title Management panel.

You can click on any title to view a description of that title. Your list of available titles can be sorted (Alphabetically, or by Newest First), so you'll always have an easy way to view your most recent additions!
Another type of title available to players is lineage-based. Players can "adopt" other players with LOTRO's Adoption System and the /adopt command. Adopting a child grants the appropriate titles to both the parent and the child ("Elrond, Father of Arwen" and "Arwen, Daughter of Elrond"). A player can have up to two adopted children, and can only adopt a player of a younger generation than they are (Your character's generation can be set from 1 to 20 in the Character panel). Relationships can be terminated by visiting a Notary, and terminating a relationship revokes all titles associated with that relationship.
The main source of titles in LOTRO, however, is the Deeds System, which you can read more about in our Traits and Accomplishments Developer Diary. Titles can be earned through all sorts of Deeds - completing quests, exploring, or even just avoiding defeat (like, "Dhorin the Wary"). Your Deed Log will tell you which of the Deeds that you're currently working on will yield titles, and a message will flash to let you know when a new title has been awarded.
For some titles, the method to obtain them will be a secret, making them unusual and special (and therefore great for bragging rights!).
Titles allow our players to showcase an accomplishment they are especially proud of, or to give other players insight about what they feel defines their characters and makes them their own. We think you'll find titles to be a fun way to further customize your character in LOTRO!
